Gold Formation

The most widely accepted theory of gold formation is that gold through heat and pressure is precipitated with silica in hydrothermal solutions through fractures in rock.  On cooling, these solutions solidify forming quartz and auriferous veins.

These gold bearing veins are then exposed over long periods of time by weathering and geological processes, depositing gold fragments as specimens and nuggets at the surface.
